Tips On Where To Place Your Dashcam On Your Windscreen To Stay Legally Compliant

When setting up your dash cam it is integral that it is positioned correctly so that your view remains unobstructed. 

This is not only important to make sure you can continue to safely see out of your windscreen but also, the location of the dash cam is a legal requirement. 

A rule to follow with installation is ensuring your dash cam is not blocking the region covered by your windscreen wipers by more than 40mm.

Wiring the dashcam yourself

Our dash cams do come with the required wiring loom to wire it into the vehicle, however unless you are comfortable and confident with auto electrics, we would recommend having it fitted by a professional as installation holds a certain level of difficulty.

You can, however, purchase a power cable as an accessory that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket and provides power for the camera while the vehicle is in motion. This provides power to the dashcam whilst the car is in motion as the 12V sockets are not constantly powered once the engine is off.

Using your dash cam works both ways however and you need to ensure your installation and usage is legal as well.

If you choose to install the cigarette lighter option, it is important to make sure you have your wires tucked away neatly to prevent them obstructing your line of sight when plugged into the slot as you may be fined by police if this is found to be the case.

The cables provided are long enough to keep covered and fed around the windscreen to prevent any obstruction to your view.
